Lord’s SleepOut

The Lord’s SleepOut at Lord’s Cricket Ground

Sleep Under the Stars at the Home of Cricket

The Club Cricket Charity is delighted to be part of the Lord’s SleepOut on Thursday 27th February 2025. This unique event presents the opportunity to spend the night under the stars at the world-famous Lord’s Cricket Ground, the Home of Cricket.

The SleepOut combines the thrill of being at one of cricket’s most celebrated venues with the chance to make a real difference. Participants will raise vital funds for the Gandon Prodger Legacy Fund (GPLF), which honours the remarkable contributions of two cricketing stalwarts:

Simon Prodger

The Simon Prodger Legacy Fund

A passionate advocate for grassroots cricket, Simon played pivotal roles as Managing Director of the National Cricket Conference and Secretary of the Club Cricket Conference. His leadership was instrumental in the resurgence of Watford Town Cricket Club, reflecting his unwavering commitment to making cricket accessible and enjoyable for all. Simon died unexpectedly in April 2023 and is very much missed.

Nick Gandon

Nick Gandon

An accomplished cricketer in his day, Nick served as Director of the Cricket Foundation, where he was a driving force behind the “Chance to Shine” campaign that has revitalized cricket in state schools. Nick has also been an active member of the MCC, serving on the committee from 2019–2022. Nick was diagnosed with incurable pancreatic cancer in January 2024 but has continued to devote himself to charitable and cricket causes despite his illness.

Your Impact

The GPLF supports charities that reflect Simon and Nick’s shared belief in the transformative power of cricket, funding projects that change lives through education, community-building, and sport.

Funds raised through the Lord’s SleepOut will directly support:

  • The East Africa Character Development Trust: Transforming young lives in East Africa through cricket and education.
  • The Alsama Project: Using cricket and education to empower young Syrian refugees in Lebanon.
  • The Saracens Foundation: Using sport, including cricket, to help refugees and vulnerable groups in the UK rebuild their lives.
  • The Club Cricket Charity itself: Supporting community engagement and well-being through grassroots cricket.

What to Expect

The Lord’s SleepOut is not just an opportunity to experience this iconic cricketing venue in a new way—it’s also a challenge. Participants will swap their warm beds for a sleeping bag and brave the February chill sleeping underneath the stands at Lord’s. However, it’s a safe, well-organized event – with the organising team having many SleepOuts under their belts personally! – and participants will be provided with practical advice and support to stay warm and comfortable throughout the night.

This experience offers a small glimpse into the struggles faced by vulnerable groups supported by the charities funded through the GPLF.

Raising funds

While there is no mandatory fundraising target, participants are encouraged to aim high and make the most of their sponsorship opportunities. Experience suggests that well-networked and motivated volunteers can expect to raise as much as £1,000 in sponsorship – although some will do much less, and others much more. All that we ask is that participants do their very best to persuade friends, family members, colleagues, team-mates and others to be generous.

As part of the event, participants will have access to a JustGiving team page, making it easy to share their fundraising efforts with friends, family, and networks.
